The Keefe Group Highlights Possible Corruption Within the Prison System

Every now and then I read something that changes the way I look at the world. Sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. But more often it happens as a mix of the two. That was the case as I really gave some thought to a prisoner’s description of his life.

The good came from the fact that it made me really appreciate how lucky I am to be able to choose which stores to buy food from. The bad, of course, came from learning that this really isn’t the case for a lot of people. The prisoner painted a rather distressing picture of food that’s intended to benefit everyone but the people eating it. And much of the blame was laid out in front of a company called the Keefe Group. It might not seem fair to blame a company for people’s purchasing decisions. But as I looked into it things became a lot more clear.

The most significant problem with the Keefe Group is that they’re a for profit company operating in the public sector. Worse, they do so under contracts which give them sole right to sell food in those facilities. Even when they don’t seem to be around, it’s not a sure bet that they’re blameless. A recent discovery of corruption and bribes within the prison system seems to heavily implicate the Keefe Group. They might simply fund and profit from a similar service while being able to maintain an aura of detachment.

It didn’t strike me as the behavior of a company working for the public good. Everything I learned was in line with the prisoner’s initial assessment. The Keefe Group was buying low quality empty calories at rock bottom prices and then selling it within the prison system. Prisoners essentially have two choices. They can eat the tasteless but nutritious meals served by the prison. Or they can eat the nutritionally void but tasty items from the Keefe Group. In doing so they’re essentially hurting their own health though. And an argument can easily be made that by depriving themselves of proper nutrition that they’re also setting back the chances of setting their life back in order. It’s clear that the Keefe Group is succeeding at making a profit for themselves. But I think it’s important to ask whether it’s at the expense of the public good.

Other programs offered by Telmate include Preview Plus, Inmate Voicemail, and also Prepaid Calling. The Keefe Group Makes Inmate Communication a Breeze

The Keefe Group has become one of the most valuable resources for people like myself. I have taken a lot of time to get to know my friends that are incarcerated, and the reason why I have the ability to know them so well comes from my connection to Keefe Group.

This is a company that allows me to engage a video visitation and this has made it possible to stay in touch on a regular basis. I had no idea how often I would actually be able to visit a prison or take interest receiving collect calls. The reality is that the Keefe Group has made it possible for me to utilize video visitation software, and this has made it a pleasure to actually engage in conversations where I can see who I am talking to.

I think that a lot of people are going to enjoy this much more because they can see the value that they get utilizing this type of concept to connect with inmates. I always felt like I was cheated when I was paying so much for a collect call, but I definitely can see the benefits that come with a company like the Keefe Group.

I believe more people are going to embrace what the Keefe Group offers because this is a company that has managed to bring about a strong line of products that can be utilized by inmates. The inmates that I know are actually realizing the cheap route to get access to music and so much more. I did not know anything about the Keefe Group, initially, but I have come to realize that this is one of the top companies when it comes to commissary items for inmates.

I have discovered that this is the way that inmates get access to entertainment and a variety of different snacks. I did not know that this was something that inmates would be able to purchase if they have money on their books, but it appears that the Keefe Group, along with the video visitation calls, is also offering abundant commissary items.https://www.indeed.com/cmp/Keefe-Group/reviews

Corruption Leads To Possible Bid War For Commissary Services in Mississippi

A task force has been assigned to assemble recommendations for the makeover of the bid process for any outside services offered to the State of Mississippi penal system. This decision was made after the indictment of former Corrections Commissioner Christopher Epps on charges of federal corruption. Epps, would offer his business partner Cecil McCrory no bid contracts for businesses with his name affiliated. In 2007, Epps offered a no bid contract to McCrory’s direct business G.T. Enterprises, which held this contract for the next seven years, even after Centric Group, Keefe Groups parent company, bought the business.

Keefe Group has been running a monopoly on commissary services across the country for many years. Family members of inmates have sent in complaints to the company about the higher than average price of items bought through Keefe Group. The task force in Mississippi will be making the process of competitive bidding harder for the Keefe Group to obtain a monopoly.

The task force is recommending the following guidelines:

  1. The competitive biding process needs to be started on contracts over $100,000.00
  1. Upon winning any bid, the winning company must register a form with all persons that helped the company win the bid.
  1. The winning vendor must list the name and address of any persons that owns more than 5% of the company.
  1. The state institution posting the bid must post the bid on a public forum that businesses may search.
  1. The state institution must post an after bid analysis on why the institution picked the winning company.

With the suggested guidelines in place, the State of Mississippi should be able to offer fair and safe bidding practices to qualified candidates. To read the full, original article, please click here.

IC Solutions: Don’t Expect Anything

IC Solutions is a company where the customer truly never knows what is around the corner or how the company is going to react. It is truly a guessing game, and it is a game that the people that use IC Solutions are not finding very funny, at all. It is because they are dealing with delicate inmates that need human connection and interaction. There is a reason why people wish to avoid prison and why it is portrayed so poorly in movies. You don’t need to step foot in there to know it is not a place that people have on their bucket list. I’m scared to even step foot in a prison, and I never have and I never will. For someone that is perhaps a child or a young adult, I can only imagine the fear that is in their hearts and how scared they feel each and every single second.

They don’t know if someone is going to kill them, beat them up, or abuse them. They don’t have mom or dad to protect them while in prison, which only adds to the fear factor of prison. That is why if the phone call actually goes through, people are relived. It is truly up for debate and hard to predict. In this case,it did not go through for a parent that was attempting to reach their child. The child is scared and the mom is worried sick. Please tell me, who wins in this situation? The answer is clear: no one. Actually, let me correct that: IC Solutions wins, although they have won enough for my liking. They don’t need to win anymore at the expense of these poor people. They need to rectify the situation right this instant before this child is scarred for life. A Union to Fight Keefe Food Group Corruption

Keefe Food Group is one of the most corrupt companies working for our inmate families in the United States. For the past two decades, the inmate members have experienced brutality concerning the inflated prices for commodities that should otherwise be cheap. Keefe Food Group was entitled to sell food products, snacks, and other personal items for inmates in most of the inmate facilities in the United States. While there are many other companies out there that are more than capable of outdoing Keefe Food Group in business in the inmate industry, it is surprising that the company keeps on securing these crediting. This is the reason why we must fight the corruption deals experienced by our brothers and sisters in prison.

Keefe Food Group has engaged in issuing pay backs to prison officials for the no-bid contracts that are always awarded for them. For the longest time possible, the company has outdone many competitors seeking to supply food and other products in the industry because they are not willing to give as much as they give to the prison officials who sign their contracts. Keefe Food Group, according to a recent statistics of companies supplying products and food stuff to the inmate facilities, covers more than 50 prison setups in the United States and other parts of Canada.

The abuse and corruption experienced by inmate members should not be seen as a small entity. However, we should view it as a challenge that needs to be addressed with an immediate effect. If the situation is left unturned, prisons will never be a place for correction. However, it will be a new place for turning criminals into super criminals. Criminals who rob other criminals is one of the forms of disorder we are about to face as a result of Keefe Food Group. For this reason, we need to unite as the general masses and vote this company out of business. For those who have been in the prison doors, they understand what it takes to be an inmate. Keefe Food Group, as well as other companies in the industry, work by exaggerating prices that most inmates cannot afford to stay in prison.https://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/Keefe-Group-Reviews-E831315.htm

Follow New York State’s Lead — Regulate Global Tel Link

New York State is known as one of the most progressive states in the country. Say what you will about liberal politics, but one thing is very clearly working in the state of New York — crime rates are going down.

One of the reasons for this is the regulation of the telephone industry when it concerns prisons. It is a fairly overlooked and mundane thing to regulate, but the regulation has had a measurable effect on crime rates. Studies show that prisoners who stay connected to the outside world are less likely commit more crimes in the future.

So what is standing in their way? A company called Global Tel Link is making it very difficult for prisoners around the country to call their friends and families. This company somehow wedges itself in between the prisoner and the prisoner’s loved ones. It does this by securing a monopoly through a government contract to become the sole telephone services provider to a prison.

That’s when the price gouging begins. Global Tel Link begins to charge the prisoners and their families and exorbitant rate for the telephone calls themselves. There is also a menu of hidden fees that can all wrack up to hundreds of dollars per month. These fees can be absolutely ridiculous such as the fee to deposit money into an account to pay for telephone calls. That fee can be $6.95 per transaction.

This can all add up to hundreds of dollars per month and that cost is put on a very vulnerable population. The exorbitant cost can also be prohibitive which limits the amount of contact a prisoner has with his or her family. This drives up crime rates.

Meanwhile, New York State has regulated this kind of activity and crime rates are dropping. We should all follow New York State’s lead.https://www.yelp.com/biz/global-tel-link-houston

Telmate Charges Way Too Much

Telmate is a telecommunications company that serves jails and prisons. Just like all of the other prison telecommunications companies, it charges through-the-roof costs for phone calls between detention centers and the outside world. The charges and rates per minute really vary per state and locale. In an article online, the rates per minute and surcharges are shown for a variety of companies. Unfortunately, the prices that Telmate sets are not disclosed. Fortunately, we can get an idea of how much they might charge by looking at the prices that other phone companies charge. For the other phone companies, the surcharge per call can range from $3.95 to $4.99. This is the amount that is automatically charged just for making a call. For the other companies, the rates per minute are set at around $0.89 a minute. Just to upload money to pay phone calls with, people are charged fees. If you want to upload money online, Telmate will charge you $5.00 plus 30.5%. Over the phone, Telmate will charge you about $8.00. If you want your money to be refunded, Telmate will charge you $10.00. In order to hold the money of customers, fees are regularly charged. Telmate charges a monthly fee of $2.95 a month for that purpose. There are a bunch of confusing fees that have official sounding names alluding to government requirements, but are actually unnecessary and seemingly fraudulent.

Securus, another prison telecommunications company accused Telmate of telling lies in order to lure customers away. However, one must be weary when hearing these accusations, because prison telecommunications companies are all at odds with each other. Securus also accused Global tel-Link, another big telecommunications company, of telling lies and attempting to lure away customers. All of these companies are constantly competing against each other and bickering with each other, though to the common man it doesn’t really matter. In the end, all of these companies charge way too much for phone calls. Does it really matter whether the average person goes into debt from one when he or she is going to also go in debt from others?

Global Tel-Link’s Beef With The FCC

The Federal Communication Commission has for years tried to control the prices of the often out of control costs of the Inmate Calling Services Industry. In 2015, the FCC paced rate caps on all inmate in state and out of state calls. This was a move that infuriated a lot of both communications providers and prisons being provided the services. Loudest of the voices in protest was communications giant, Global Tel-Link. They say that this kind of rash decision by the commission actually just puts into jeopardy a much-needed service.

They say that if the cuts don’t mean the complete end to the services, at best they will mean a much lower quality of those services. GTL has in the recent past made a name for itself by providing cutting edge technologies at the absolute minimum of prices. They have also earned a good reputation as a company that works with its customers to the end of low prices. FCC’s crusade to cap prices may end all of that. GTL says they were working closely with FCC to reach a satisfactory pricing police by the institution jumped the gun and made some very unwise pricing-related decisions.

GTL is the leader in the communications industry in the areas of correctional technology, education, and government payment services. They are especially committed to their inmate communications, providing such services for 82% of the country’s prisoners. This includes 32 state departments of corrections, Puerto Rico, and Washington D.C. GTL maintains a headquarters in Reston, Virginia and many offices throughout the country. It was honored to be the world’s first web-based inmate telephone company.

It is today considered so good by the prison facility world that it is usually the first company consulted when a facility begins implementing a new form of technology. Although it has a good standing as the top in its industry, it is still pushing forward and upward and appears not to be slowing down in this progression.
