A Second Chance At Communication – Telmate

As the world keeps getting modernizing, even those who failed to live up to the social norms will participate in the change. An example of this is that people who have been incarcerated can utilize the latest communicational tools to get in touch with their loved ones. This comes as a courtesy of companies who develop inmate communication systems, such as Telmate.

The Company

Telmate has been in this industry for over 10 years. Their business model is driven by technology improvements that yield high-quality service. The majority of their customers are correctional facilities evenly dispersed throughout Canada and the U.S., which accumulate to over 300 facilities.

Mission

This company’s performance is driven by their impact on the society. They firmly believe that inmates have a better chance at improvement if they are connected with positive influences from the outside world. This means that a person who has been incarcerated will be incentivized to do better if they are interacting with their family, friends, counselors, or whoever is guiding them.

Encouraging Safety

Telmate goes beyond helping inmates achieve a positive change in their life. They also work to ensure all the guards and correctional officers are safe. Further, they are a philanthropistic company that gives back to those officials who have fallen victim to the violence. This is done through their programs such as Telmate Fallen Heros and Telmate Cares.

Notable Creations

One of the devices that have not seen improvement in a long time is inmate ankle bracelet. This is why Telmate has designed an alternative called “Guardian”. It operates as a phone app that an inmate can access in order to check in, see upcoming events, meet through video call, and more. In order to break away from the old-fashioned ankle bracelet, this company is trying to implement one of the largest platforms in the world nowadays, smartphones. It is a device that could ultimately be very convenient and cost-effective, as there is no additional hardware to be installed. These types of products have helped Telmate change thousands of lives thus far!

Getting Money From Nothing

Global Tel is a company that tends to take money from people who don’t really have the extra money to throw around. My husband is in prison right now, and phone calls are about the only way that we can maintain a relationship with each other. We write letters, but it’s nice to be able to talk to someone over the phone. The rates for the calls are high, and I simply don’t see why the company charges what they do for a 10-minute call.

Sometimes, I think that it might be better if I just wait out the time he’s in jail for him to come home. I had to pay a fee when I started my Global Tel account, and it seems like there’s always some kind of added fee when I put more money on my account or when I accept a call from him. There is no way that Global Tel needs to charge the rates that it charges. It’s a big company, and if numerous prison systems use the company to allow inmates to make phone calls, then it will make a significant amount by charging decent rates that people can afford instead of trying to get the most out of people.

Calls Dropped All The Time

It seems like the only thing that Global Tel is good at is dropping phone calls. My boyfriend has only been in prison for a few weeks, but it seems like it’s been months because we can never have a decent conversation. I’m spending a lot of money each week on my Global Tel Link account, and I think that the service should be better than what is offered. There are some days when we can have a conversation without the phone hanging up, but most of the time, we get cut off about five minutes into the conversation.

I’ve talked to Global Tel about this issue, but the only thing that the company tells me is that it must be an issue with my phone. I have a landline just so that I can talk to my boyfriend because I know that cell phones tend to lose service. There are other people in the prison who have the same issue, so I know it’s not just my phone or my account. Global Tel doesn’t care about the calls that are dropped. It only cares about the amount of money that it can make from people who are desperately trying to stay in touch with their loved ones.

The Keefe Group Highlights Possible Corruption Within the Prison System

Every now and then I read something that changes the way I look at the world. Sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. But more often it happens as a mix of the two. That was the case as I really gave some thought to a prisoner’s description of his life.

The good came from the fact that it made me really appreciate how lucky I am to be able to choose which stores to buy food from. The bad, of course, came from learning that this really isn’t the case for a lot of people. The prisoner painted a rather distressing picture of food that’s intended to benefit everyone but the people eating it. And much of the blame was laid out in front of a company called the Keefe Group. It might not seem fair to blame a company for people’s purchasing decisions. But as I looked into it things became a lot more clear.

The most significant problem with the Keefe Group is that they’re a for profit company operating in the public sector. Worse, they do so under contracts which give them sole right to sell food in those facilities. Even when they don’t seem to be around, it’s not a sure bet that they’re blameless. A recent discovery of corruption and bribes within the prison system seems to heavily implicate the Keefe Group. They might simply fund and profit from a similar service while being able to maintain an aura of detachment.

It didn’t strike me as the behavior of a company working for the public good. Everything I learned was in line with the prisoner’s initial assessment. The Keefe Group was buying low quality empty calories at rock bottom prices and then selling it within the prison system. Prisoners essentially have two choices. They can eat the tasteless but nutritious meals served by the prison. Or they can eat the nutritionally void but tasty items from the Keefe Group. In doing so they’re essentially hurting their own health though. And an argument can easily be made that by depriving themselves of proper nutrition that they’re also setting back the chances of setting their life back in order. It’s clear that the Keefe Group is succeeding at making a profit for themselves. But I think it’s important to ask whether it’s at the expense of the public good.

The Keefe Group Makes Inmate Communication a Breeze

The Keefe Group has become one of the most valuable resources for people like myself. I have taken a lot of time to get to know my friends that are incarcerated, and the reason why I have the ability to know them so well comes from my connection to Keefe Group.

This is a company that allows me to engage a video visitation and this has made it possible to stay in touch on a regular basis. I had no idea how often I would actually be able to visit a prison or take interest receiving collect calls. The reality is that the Keefe Group has made it possible for me to utilize video visitation software, and this has made it a pleasure to actually engage in conversations where I can see who I am talking to.

I think that a lot of people are going to enjoy this much more because they can see the value that they get utilizing this type of concept to connect with inmates. I always felt like I was cheated when I was paying so much for a collect call, but I definitely can see the benefits that come with a company like the Keefe Group.

I believe more people are going to embrace what the Keefe Group offers because this is a company that has managed to bring about a strong line of products that can be utilized by inmates. The inmates that I know are actually realizing the cheap route to get access to music and so much more. I did not know anything about the Keefe Group, initially, but I have come to realize that this is one of the top companies when it comes to commissary items for inmates.

I have discovered that this is the way that inmates get access to entertainment and a variety of different snacks. I did not know that this was something that inmates would be able to purchase if they have money on their books, but it appears that the Keefe Group, along with the video visitation calls, is also offering abundant commissary items.https://www.indeed.com/cmp/Keefe-Group/reviews

Corruption Leads To Possible Bid War For Commissary Services in Mississippi

A task force has been assigned to assemble recommendations for the makeover of the bid process for any outside services offered to the State of Mississippi penal system. This decision was made after the indictment of former Corrections Commissioner Christopher Epps on charges of federal corruption. Epps, would offer his business partner Cecil McCrory no bid contracts for businesses with his name affiliated. In 2007, Epps offered a no bid contract to McCrory’s direct business G.T. Enterprises, which held this contract for the next seven years, even after Centric Group, Keefe Groups parent company, bought the business.

Keefe Group has been running a monopoly on commissary services across the country for many years. Family members of inmates have sent in complaints to the company about the higher than average price of items bought through Keefe Group. The task force in Mississippi will be making the process of competitive bidding harder for the Keefe Group to obtain a monopoly.

The task force is recommending the following guidelines:

  1. The competitive biding process needs to be started on contracts over $100,000.00
  1. Upon winning any bid, the winning company must register a form with all persons that helped the company win the bid.
  1. The winning vendor must list the name and address of any persons that owns more than 5% of the company.
  1. The state institution posting the bid must post the bid on a public forum that businesses may search.
  1. The state institution must post an after bid analysis on why the institution picked the winning company.

With the suggested guidelines in place, the State of Mississippi should be able to offer fair and safe bidding practices to qualified candidates. To read the full, original article, please click here.

IC Solutions: Don’t Expect Anything

IC Solutions is a company where the customer truly never knows what is around the corner or how the company is going to react. It is truly a guessing game, and it is a game that the people that use IC Solutions are not finding very funny, at all. It is because they are dealing with delicate inmates that need human connection and interaction. There is a reason why people wish to avoid prison and why it is portrayed so poorly in movies. You don’t need to step foot in there to know it is not a place that people have on their bucket list. I’m scared to even step foot in a prison, and I never have and I never will. For someone that is perhaps a child or a young adult, I can only imagine the fear that is in their hearts and how scared they feel each and every single second.

They don’t know if someone is going to kill them, beat them up, or abuse them. They don’t have mom or dad to protect them while in prison, which only adds to the fear factor of prison. That is why if the phone call actually goes through, people are relived. It is truly up for debate and hard to predict. In this case,it did not go through for a parent that was attempting to reach their child. The child is scared and the mom is worried sick. Please tell me, who wins in this situation? The answer is clear: no one. Actually, let me correct that: IC Solutions wins, although they have won enough for my liking. They don’t need to win anymore at the expense of these poor people. They need to rectify the situation right this instant before this child is scarred for life.
